Robeson County soil is sandy, not like the beaches where we vacationed every summer, but a far cry from dense red clay. I was about 10 or 11, when I visited a family who lived on a farm — relatives, I think, although I can’t recall for sure who they were or where they lived. Webredware, common amongst early potters, is a vernacular name given to wheel-turned or pressed red-bodied earthenware, primarily tablewares, storage vessels and presentation pieces.
